    Clothes pegs

I am doing half a dozen pegs for each of my mates who gave me a cot to break up. They’re made from the spindles.Clothes pegs-67f44856-1f1a-4f44-a02a-a23190255de6.jpgClothes pegs-20ecc5b2-3afa-4fc7-9012-f8823c13b8f8.jpg
Cut each spindle in half, and then each to length.
I saw some nice antique pegs, perhaps Shaker made, and thought to copy, but balked at turning.
I remember, as a child, the Romanies coming to the door with pegs like these. Imagine doing them on a pole lathe, bodging in the woods. I used a bandsaw and drill press. Sanding has been rather tedious. Wife says she WON’T use them for her smalls, but they’re alright for jeans!

Nothing goes to waste at my place either.

-What kind of wood are they, and won't the wet clothes grow some splinters from the slot?
Seems like your wife is a precautionary person who don't want her undies pierced?

Thanks for the links, and your interest!
The wood is beech, a good choice for cots (and workbenches) since it doesn’t splinter readily, or if it does, they are benign. No, I don’t want my wife’s undies pierced, either. The design likely predates the colonisation of America, though.
