I bought one of those tools. Used it a few times. It's neat.

There a few ways to make a thread, Ralph. Cutting or forming are two methods (there are more). A cut-tap produces a chip. A form-tap extrudes the material into the thread shape. There are no chips in the above process. Also, look at the tap and you will notice there are no cutting flutes.
