Might as well replace it. The shocks themselves are not expensive. If you have that much work invested. Just sayin. (as they say). Who's "they"? I don't know.

You must be thinking of The Department of They. These days you can buy the strut with the spring so doing that is a waste of time...

About 10 years ago I replaced the struts and rear shocks on a Dodge Caravan. The complete assemblies were considerably more expensive at the time. Do you at least agree with me that that guy is wasting time and effort?

Anytime I ever Found damaged shock boots on the struts the shocks were also bad. Kike already said a complete waste of time replacing the boot only. Some makes or models you might have to reuse the springs, but otherwise just huck them. Same goes for replacing the boots on CV joints. Most people are not attentive enough or don't have their vehicles serviced regularly enough to even know the boot has failed until they hear a clunking noise
Never try to tell me it can't be done

I didn't mean just replacing the boots. But you're right if you find torn boots on cv joints crud has already found its way in. And like you said the joints are most likely bad anyway.
