Aawww c'mon, for all us newbies, what was the machining sequence ? Maybe something like this ?
The threaded nut is cut whilst still attached to the middle "lump", nut is then parted off so that it hangs loose, can be taped to main workpiece to stop it rattling around, or even make a little jiglet to hold it centred.
The central lump is then cut to size and threaded to fit the nut ?
