9 years...in the US they would still be fighting in court over the environmental effect on some rare, never seen snow worm or some such.
Decades ago TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) built a couple of pumped storage units in Tennessee. A pilot plant for proof of concept was built on the Ocoee River, and the resulting full sized project is the Racoon Mountain Pumped Storage Facility. Though it was laughed at before the pilot plant proved the feasibility, the pilot plant was efficient enough that it still operates and makes power 50 years later.

my uncle worked at tva for many years and retired from there...made lots of $$ there. the swiss sell power to germany as the water flows down every day as it makes more than switzerland needs.and then pumps it back up at night when power need is much lower. my daughters fiance is swiss, we go over a few times to visit, his dad told me all about this plant last trip. Im due for another trip...but my wallet aint..you can do a month in italy for what a week will cost in switzerland will cost.I love italy oh so much.
