I question the accuracy of this as I do not believe Antarctica is a country, continent yes, country…not so much
That being said, this might just be an oversight and the rest of the chart could be correct

Yes, it's very confusing. Alaska is shown as a "country" separate from CONUS. This source...

shows US as larger than Brazil, perhaps due to the inclusion of Alaska.
It might make more sense if it were described as a list by size of "land masses" rather than "countries".

it also shows Hawaii that way but if you look at the underline the total land mass of the USA when including all of its disconnected lands and protectorates it is actually 3rd ignoring Antartica since it is not a country

And there are ways to even game country size. Canada claims second behind Russia if you include the 200 nautical mile limit as Canada has a lot of lare islands in it's North. But strict land mass it is number 3.

Yep, every one thinks "bigger is better", but, it is for sure NOT in a lot of cases!!!!
