I do this every so often at my work place. Interesting. Why does she have an ink line drawn on her left hand with cross lines ? What purpose does this serve? Thanks

Looks like it is marked in centimetres to assist her with some quick measurement instead of having ti hold a ruler as well.

I was going to ask the same thing, it looks to me to be a ruler like Tonyg commented...
