    my crimpers are the hex type which compress from all sides - does anyone know if this type with a single point of "squeeze" have any benefit, or tradeoffs?

    I was told years ago that the goal was to maximise metal contact, reduce internal volume (compress the strands/cores) and essentially microweld the cable to the lug so it was difficult/impossible for corrosion to become an issue. I don;t know if this method is achieving those outcomes.

    That hydraulic crimper scales up hand crimpers for insulated terminals, the proportions don't seem to compare.
    If I had to guess, that dent reduces interior 'volume' like a hex crimp.
    But; can't visualize how indent equals same all round compression, especially the two pocket areas next to it. Pressing round into a crescent isn't logical.
    Regarding the seal, have gotten unbelievably good results with adhesive lined shrink tube.
