Kind of killing a lot of colossal greed there. There is a kind of poetry involved in this concept.
It's a good gesture because crypto mining is a scourge, but realistically they were probably already obsolete. Those things have a shelf life shorter than mayonnaise left on hot asphalt. You buy them, run them flat out for 6 months, then throw them in the trash. At that point they barely even make back the cost of electricity. Crypto mining adds up to about 0.5% of global electricity use.
People fear what they do not understand.......
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.... OR! The owner of this cryptomining farm stole $2 million in electricity to run their operation, got caught, and had their miners confiscated and crushed.

I understand the immense greed associated with this idea. Followed it from the getgo. It's an interesting study in human nature that I have followed at a distance. Something with no value held in high esteem because people believe it has value. Gets harder and harder to produce but, still has no value. It's rife with unscrupulous people that rob and hide the valued items. And has been used for more nefarious transactions that anything other than the US dollar.
But no I don't know or understand it. Therefore I fear it.
I fear the mentality that finds a great idea.
