I guess this is actually an impromptu life net, a bygone fire rescue tactic now favored by cartoon characters, but demonstrated here by Vancouver firemen in 1910.

Enough to be winded would stop you jumping to your feet immediately

I'm with 12bolts: looked like a thud; no judo break of fall. Anything like that that you walk away from (eventually) was a good save. great idea to drop sky first.
