That section of crane probably has twice as much steel in it as the 3 cars it pinned. Some of those people never knew what hit them.

On another note – it must've been a long ride down, for the worker(s) killed in the crane's cab. Damn. (They were getting some horrible high winds, at the time.)

Seems like so many of those cranes fall. I realize that many more do not fall, but way too many seem to be operated by people who should not be operating them.

An interesting in-depth look, at why the crane fell.

The thing is, if the pins were removed, as it definately appears, it would have been almost impossible to remove them without assistance from a crane lift and of course to reinstall the same would be necessary. I know with much much smaller tractor pins it is basically impossible to remove them without using the machines hydraulics to take the weight off the pin & with installing the pins also.

Extremely sad for all involved & the decision maker will probably spend time to contemplate that ill thought action.

Death, destruction and disregard. Note plenty of drive-aways, not one hint of a door opening to administer aid. The forty second delay of one parties action is non-productive as well.

Can't help but wonder if, in attempting to remove the cab assembly — which became stuck — extra, upsetting forces, could've helped dislodge connections below. Apparently, once so many of the pins were removed, it didn't take much.
