Pretty easy way to do it. In 1966 I was at a small community in the arctic. One day we had a DC-4 freighter come in, it had been heading to Cambridge Bay but their weather had gone down and we were it's alternate. The next morning Cambridge's weather had cleared and the bird wanted to go but the wings were covered with about 1/4" of rime ice. Myself and another fellow were sent up on the wings with mops and mop buckets full of de-icing fluid to de-ice the wings. After about an hour we had the the ice off and the crew fired the bird up and was gone.
