Deep disassembly grooves cut into ancient Roman temple's columns - photo
Note the deep grooves in the columns of the 2,100 year old ancient Roman Temple of Antoninus and Faustina ago. They were probably for spolia - the ancient practice of reusing cut stone from existing structures. I don't know if the grooves were cut prior to construction, or added afterwards in an attempt to dismantle the structure.
