Digital Readout Display Stand...Sherline 2000 mill

Well my visit to California found me in tool man delight. I always wanted a radial drill press and a real Bridgeport.
Not going to happen in my little shop. So what is the next best thing? I saw it when I was at the Craftsmanship
museum in Vista California. The master machinist had one on his small parts work bench. The large room also had
full size lathes and of course a Bridgeport.

On the small table was this model 2000 Sherline mill. Well it is what I call my Mini Bridgeport and Radial Arm Drill Press.
Of course I had to have the digital readouts.

That makes for a project. Need a way to mount the digital readout display so I can see it no matter where the spindle happens to be
and however it may be articulated. Number two requirement was to keep the cables contained and safe.
I think this project attains both goals.

I used a camera tripod ball head that I was not using. Just stored in one of the many drawers full of stuff.
The ball heads have a "standard" 3/8-16" thread so a good ole hex bolt would work for the shaft.
The Sherline 2000 has a wonderful arm supported by the column. I used this arm by adding a top plate and
bottom plate that was milled down .050" to give the plates an alignment boss. Each had a 3/8 hole drilled through.
Make a small spacer to raise it up a bit and the main mount is done.

Machined a piece of aluminum to fit the top of the ball head and then drilled two clearance holes for 10-32 screws to hold the display box.
Made a small "nut plate" for inside the box making sure there would be enough space for it to clear all electronics.

    The result:
