DIY forged Touch Mark out of an old car spring

Hello everyone, I‘m new to this forum and this is my first post!
I forged out a touchmark stamp out of an old car spring some time ago. It’s a really simple project and since then working very well! I‘ve been using it to stamp forged knives.

Can anybody confirm the tradition that a mark must be PROVED? I believe this was so among the masons, and perhaps in other guilds. By proved, I mean either that the mark was approved by masters when the apprentice or journeyman had reached a required standard, or that it was geometrically proven, in that it was based on a construction of straightedge and compasses.

Could you explain that a bit more, please? I fail to see how construction methodology "proves" anything other than the fact of construction.

A man uses his own personal touch mark... for all to see....."I did this, and I think it is done correctly." "This is an example of the best I can do."

We use something in the more modern day called "Pier Review"

A Scientist or Doctor has an Idea or a theory, and uses every weapon in his arsenal of personnel knowledge to prove his Theory or Idea.

He then publicly publishes his work it in appropriate journals related to his particular field. He is risking being laughed at if members of his field read his theory and are able to disprove it. Cold fusion anyone? His Mark .... (published work) Is thus proven or disproven by his piers.

A makers mark on a piece of furniture or cabinetry is proven by other members of his guild or trade when the other members make a better copy of his work. A makers mark on a bottle of whiskey is similar.
