DIY Mantis-Rocna Anchor Clone (Part 1)

An anchor is a tool, you say? Absolutely! An anchor is the premier tool used to keep a boat in one relative area without drifting off somewhere. IN fact, it's indispensable!

The latest wedge type, "whiz-bang" anchors out on the market these days are made by Mantis and Rocna. These are patented anchors and come with a very hefty price tag.

The anchor I would choose for the new 18' sailboat I'm building would be somewhere around $600.00 with shipping. Looking at used ones, I'd still be spending around $300.00 PLUS shipping!

Being retired and on a limited income, I decided to spend $45.00 at he local steel supply shop and build my own. I thought I'd share what I'm doing in a series of videos. This first video (Part1) is where I discuss what I'm doing and planning, and remove the mill scale from the metal. In Part 2, I'll do the layout and cutting of the components that make up the anchor. I'll also be preparing a drawing of the components with dimensions in Imperial and Metric.

Hope you like this video and follow along on the "adventure."

    Here's the video:
