DIY Plywood Tote (Plywood Carrying Tool)

I most often work alone, without anyone around to help me when it comes to carrying large unwieldy sheet goods such as full sheets of plywood. Being older now, I find it more difficult to handle such bulky items. Heavy, ¾” (18mm or 19mm) plywood makes it even more difficult.

I believe in working smarter rather than harder. Therefore, I made this simple plywood tote tool to help me heft full sheets of plywood around with ease. You can buy such a tool in the big box home centers for around $6.00(US) or so, but they are made of plastic that chips and cracks in a short period of time. This amounts to more waste plastic on the face of the earth.

I made mine from scrap wood laying around in the shop. I used ½” (12mm) plywood, some scrap ¾” (18mm) x 2-1/4” (57mm) pine for spacers, and a piece of 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” (38mm x 38mm) spruce for the handle. I used 2” (50mm) deck screws, and glue to hold it together. The paint was left over from a past project and was applied for protection (although not really necessary).
