I don't know why it is but with the exception of my late great uncle Jim I find the best tasting doughnuts always seem to be made by tiny oriental women.
A Thai couple moved to the only town in the county I live in and opened up a doughnut shop about two years ago. Some people were skeptic of there even being enough folks around who would buy doughnuts for her to remain in business. One guy said there have been half a dozen people try to make a go of a doughnut shop here and none survived more than 6 months. I said yeah and I bet none of them were from Asia,

You'll see. Its been 2 years now and every morning if you drive by the parking lot will be full. Her husband even delivers doughnuts to the next town 30 miles away.
Good Story Frank! Never been to an Asian bakery but the one is SF is world famous. 40yrs ago when I was turning a wrench I would roll in about 6:30-7:00 and 3 doors down was a hole in the wall bakery that made the best cinnamon rolls I ever had. The Great lady that ran the place took good care of us too. She had something for everyone and All Good! @¿@ She would time her last batch of cinnamon rolls so it was just cooling when we got there...and wump we were set and she always threw in a handful of free doughnut holes, powdered and sugar coated...for later pick-me ups. The amazing thing about the cinnamon rolls was they were light and fluffy and you could tear off (unwind) the edge of the ring like tissue paper, yet had just a hint of sear to it, and the Cinnamon was the best. The good beyond that was you didn't go into a coma, a half hour later like the ones at Cinnabon. Ask her about the cinnamon once and she said she used Thai Cinnamon and that's been the only kind we keep around the house pretty much since then. Don't eat that much sweet anymore (other than my biweekly Cherry Garcia float) but Great Memories of that lady (IIRC her name was Beth or Betty), her baking prowess and the best cinnamon rolls Ever!
What I'm impressed with in the Gif is the guys skill rolling precisely with an awkward tool, virtually no waste...He's done that a few thousand times!

Never seen donuts made like that before. A shop I worked in many years ago had a machine that punched them out assembly line style, and cooked one side in oil, flipped them, cooked the other side, then drained the oil on a little ramp, so as they slid on to a catch tray they were ready for cinnamon and sugar.
Will have to try and find a vid.
