I have always thought that a sudden impact within plumbing systems is a really, really, REALLY bad idea. Water is an incompressable fluid, so the pipe takes ALL the shock.

And that broken pipe will be in a pretty horrible place to fix and will leak for who knows how long before it is discovered...
