Drawbar Hammer/Spanner Making a Laminated Handle From Scrap Wood

I wanted to make a nice looking laminated handle for my Drawbar Hammer/Spanner in the style of the Estwing carpenters hammer.
Here is my attempt.
In the video I call the hammer an "Eastwing" which is incorrect. I actually own one and I never properly looked at the name. Go figure!

Nice Presso, but why didn’t you oil the timber before you sealed it? Oil brings out the beauty of the grain better than varnish.

I agree but in the environment that the tool would be used it would absorb coolant, metal dust and grease and before long it would look awful. The finish I used still looks good two years down the track.

You can seal with varnish/lacquer after the oil has settled. It’s takes light oil (I use food grade mineral oil - very cheap at IKEA) about a week to fully penetrate the timber and settle down.

Very nice, for show I have my father's copper mallet from {mumble} decades ago, back when the lathe was turned by a dinosaur on a treadmill.

For my day to day work I just use a cheap polyurathane coated dead blow hammer.
