Nothing is forever when it comes to the shores of the Oceans. natural erosion from rain runoff winds the tides wave action, and storms.

The once large pristine beaches all around the globe have gradually diminished through the passage of time. In some areas more rapidly than others Especially where rows of tall buildings have been built near the beaches altering the natural airflow of the winds creating a higher wave action near the shores which also serve to create larger undertows with both the rising and ebbing tides. Until eventually the eroded sand and silt falls over the continental shelves far out to sea.

there is no stopping it, but in an effort to try and protect their expensive beach front properties dragging the sands back to the shores to try and retain their beaches by excavating or dredging they can temporarily recover those lost acreages, knowing full well everything taken from the sea will be returned to the sea in time. Coral reefs and artificial breakwaters are probably a couple of the best ways to combat or slow the erosion of the beaches
