Earthquake kills man working under a CJ. Nye County, Nevada. The police are saying the vehicle was jacked up safely, but I'm a little skeptical when I see that hi-lift jack and the cinder blocks. Also that ISIS-like propaganda video intro doesn't inspire confidence.

But who knows, maybe I'm not seeing the jackstands. Point is that I imagine an earthquake could indeed knock a properly-jacked vehicle off jackstands, and that's something to think about. Makes me consider the advice of an old hotrodder who said how he likes to always slide a couple of rims under a jacked vehicle, just in case.

I did a little checking and found that the graphics used on the video to protray the Nye County Sheriff's Department does not come close to ther actual department graphics. I've sent a link for the video to Nye County, Nevada, sheriff Sharon Wehrly asking if the video is, indeed, from her department. Just got this response:

That video appears to be ours. What makes you think it’s a hoax.

When the Loma Prieta 6.9 Richter scale earthquake struck my 63 Dodge Dart station wagon (5 miles from the epicenter) was up on 4 robust welded home built jack stands it was knocked off and landed on all 4 wheels with no significant damage. (the jack stands were un-damaged also). The shock forces came at about a 45 degree angle to the car and likely exceeded one G in the vertical direction as evidenced by how my workshop tools behaved.

I know what you mean. The flyover connector road from the 405 to the 605 is about six stories high at its highest point. I always get antsy when traversing it. Sadly, the radius of the curve it traces is small enough that you can't go around very fast to minimize your exposure.
