It looks like the seat is the controller...
The foot pedals pivot and are at least part of the controls...
Just after he moves the gate (0:14) you can see the right pedal move from almost horizontal the an obvious angle.

Tilts his feet forward to go in that direction back for reverse steers by one foot forward one foot back. A genius little machine and the guy is super experienced in operating it. Kind of reminds me of the Segway grounds keeper a few months back only this machine is way more stable
