That seems more like applying pesticides than irrigation...

It's probably not pesticide application, but it could be to knock pests out of the trees. The other video on this I saw said it was irrigation, but you don't irrigate leaves. You might wash leaves if they were coated...

A deep root Drip Irrigation system would be far more efficient.
