And like many riders they just can't 'wait' by the push button away from the traffic, but ride forward where the likelihood of the horse being scared by something on the road, fast ridden bicycles that appear without any noise/warning, is increased. That said many lycra-lunatics don't bother stopping for crossing red lights...
