Interestingly enough, my wife and I were discussing only this morning what happens to air travel when the "oil runs out"

The thugs at TSA will be out of a job with no planes in the air

We'll be on some form of chemical energy storage for air travel for a long, long time. Maybe hydrogen via ammonia, or synthetic carbon neutral efuel, but it'll be chemical for anything but extremely short range air travel. Batteries are a very poor choice for planes. Max theoretical energy capacity of lithium battery chemistry is about 3x where we are now. Max practical is much less. That's still not even close to enough for air travel.
Real Engineering did a very good analysis of the problem.

I heard a really interesting analysis of this a few years ago. Basically the TSA is an extension of welfare, by hiring what essentially amounts to unemployable people to do meaningless work as security theater. A surprising number of complete and total burnouts from highschool ended up sniffing panties at the airport, and I'm inclined to agree.

So - on the Eviation Alice all-electric aircraft web site, they claim 440 nautical mile range and 250 kph top speed, but I would have to guess that they are not at the same time...
But - the politicians will just legislate that you have to be able to do it and you stupid engineers are just in the pocket of big oil blah blah blah...

The most feared "F" word to hear during a flight is "FIRE!"
Recently, several French electric buses decided to "self-immolate" on the streets of Paris, resulting in the model being taken off the road. Imagine for a moment were such a fire to erupt on an aircraft in flight? The devastation would be immediate, making the DeHavilland Comet failures look tame in comparison. Add to that the move toward composite materials for improving strength while reducing weight, and that adds more fuel to the fire.
No way I'm flying on one of these.

The day I see a Politian be able to come up with a working design on their own and then build it as prof of concept, manage to put it through all testing, and manufacturing feasibility studies, surpass existing complete cradle to grave comparisons is the day I will hire them on staff. until then all a Politian is to me is a drain on the economy

Sorry Frank, but they are a LOT more dangerous than that and they are by definition "useless eaters" which is a reference by Billy Goats and co.

Don't hold back Frank! Tell us what you really think! ;) Remember politicians usually can't handle numbers very well. And, please, God, don't let anyone tell them what the number is that comes after "Trillion."
