Yep, but this is a good example of the engineers planning ahead, knowing when you sit on top of the structure you are trying to destroy, it will eventually fall out from under the excavator hence the safety line bridle suspending it from a large crane.

Yep, and you can bet after careful calculations they doubled the size of the rigging and tripled the size of the crane then doubled everything again because there was the human element in the equation at least that would have been how I would have done it But the excavator could have been remotely controlled I guess

Think about it - they are taking out the edge next to the span that is already gone. The method of demolition is to remove concrete with a jack hammer on the end of the excavator. What happens when you take out enough concrete? The span collapses.

Definitely remote controlled. Where is the operator's cabin? Also appears to have four feet and no tracks.
