Contrast the instrument side, which is always pointed away from the sun, with the sun shield, always pointed towards it.
Considering that the average density of deep space is about one atom per cubic centimeter, there just isn't much there to pommel the equipment and heat it.

I would think that the scale showing absolute ZERO, should begin at ZERO!! At least have the Zero scale included.
