Unfortunately, I have seen one of those used too many times on my fingers.

I also have personal experience (almost 60 years ago).

Actually, I credit that very unpleasant incident with 'getting my attention' regarding the safety of my fingers and there have been no significant incidents since.

Yes, my major hand injury accident in 1987 definitely was an attention getter. I've done quite well after that.
