fixture for drilling pipe
When clamping pipes in a drill press, I find the best way is to place them in a "V" fixture Once centered the holes are 100% repeatable
I needed to drill a series of holes in several pipes reasonably on center and close to the same distance apart.
This is what I made to accomplish it.
just a piece of angle iron with a couple pieces of flat bar welded to the back side.
after clamping it to the drill table I drilled a hole through it the size of the holes I will be drilling in the pipes then moved the fixture the distance I wanted between holes and re clamped it down.

I positioned the pipe to drill the first hole and clamped it down the fixture allows me to drill either diameter pipe I need without needing to reposition it
Attachment 45324
After drilling the larger diameter pipes I began drilling the smaller ones. Once the first hole was drilled, I used an Allen wrench to serve as a locater pin since it fit the hole nicely without much wiggle. This allowed me to drill multiple holes in reasonable alignment both of distance and true to centerline
