I can remember when the soles of my feet were thick enough o walk over a bed or goathead burs without bothering me hardly any at all.
But then again back in the late 50's early 60's you could barely get us kids to even consider wearing shoes in the summer

those oscillating multitools with a course aluminium oxide sanding attachment work well too, the thing about them is because they don't actually spin, they tend not to get so hot.

I used to use a 5'' random orbit sander but now I use a Makita 1x21 band file. Works so fast it does not get hot. Just one of my heels gets callouses
