Whilst it won’t infuse a flavour in the short times given, it will infuse a fragrance. When I Was Cheffing for a living, we did sometimes do things just to add fragrance.

And sometimes the fragrance is all it takes for most customers. if their nose tells them it is smoked then their minds follow suit.
