I once got a lot of about 80 sheets of glass that size as part of an auction purchase. I left them there I have no idea how they are transported. The actual lots I wanted were tempered patio door glass that came with beautiful transport racks worth more than I paid for the glass.

I recall this has cropped up in a previous GIF. The trapped air provides a natural buffer in the final drop as seen by the glass floating across the table, if lowered slowly its own weight could break it. In that size it is probably tempered and this the safest way and I have seen this first hand, the guys are not nervous just careful as glass is always unpredictable.

It is unlikely to be tempered as you cannot cut tempered glass.

They can't be too nervous, no one is wearing goggles. If I were trying that for the first time, I sure would be. Perhaps even the second time and even the 100th time.

Assuming it's float glass and made in a horizontal position, just how did they get it into that vertical position in the first place?

I love float tables.I made one for my mill so I could use it as a seat&guide machine for building cylinder heads.
