Glue pot hotplate
Attachment 50150
My elder son has given me his old coffee machine. He has another and this is scale bound: however, since it still heats up, I thought it would be good for the glue pots. My old hot plate got damaged.
Who else still uses hide glue?
You may laugh, but I do need a hot plate.

I do still have a can of hide glue here that gets very occasional use. I used to use a small electric coffee carafe thing that I salvaged from the trash somewhere along the line. I used it as sort of a double boiler by putting a bit of water in it and then placing a small empty soup can in the water with my glue in it. I only ever needed a small amount of glue and this way I could mix just what I needed and then toss the can with any leftover glue that will not keep long term. I think I finally got rid of my kettle for this use as I got a good lab type hotplate that is multi purpose.
The water got hot enough to melt the glue but stopped just short of boiling. It worked well for my use. I expect that coffee maker you have will work similarly as it's designed to just keep the coffee hot but not too hot. I always like repurposing stuff when I can.
