    GM Futurliner bus - photos

The GM Futurliner buses were built to carry technological exhibits as part of GM's Parade of Progress road shows that took place between the 1930s and 1950s. Only twelve were built.

Better have long, narrow displays! Look at the back doors.

The side opens so you would view from the outside. Look closely at the seams on the side.

That telescopic "parking-lot light" is pretty fancy.

I initially surmised that the exhibits were displayed inside the bus in bookmobile fashion, where the public entered at the front and exited at the rear. But in that I'd be wrong.

I hope it had beefie power steering to handle those dual front tires. I drove Greyhounds for a lot of years. Every now and then I had to pick up one of their busses from the "historic fleet" and drive somewhere to be used in a movie. Some of them had "arm strong steering". Parallel parking in places like New Orleans French Quarter was not for the faint of heart.
