It's been years since I've been in the fresh grape industry. This is an excellent means to reduce over spray, which had been a common problem in my tenure. I suspect this is another innovation from UC Davis.

It just makes sense on so many levels. I would think first and foremost would be uniform and even coverage on the entire pod, if it reduces cost due to less overspray wasting chemical so much the better.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

Absolutely there is the cost saving. There is also a reduction in chemicals entering the environment. There is a more precise application. There is no waste of the spray on the leaves. As Frank S says, it makes sense on so many levels.
