The Great Seal Bug was a covert listening device given by the Soviets to the unsuspecting U.S. Ambassador to the USSR in 1945.

Not very good US security to let those be installed.
It was a passive diaphragm. A microwave beam was constantly aimed at it and the variations in the reflected beam were decoded as voices. For quite a while the US didn't understand why they were being bombarded by microwaves.
