I think Owen Greenwoods racer got banned in the mid sixty's as not being in the true spirit of sidecar racing (it was also maybe too successful). Although it was referred to as a trike it had in fact four wheels the rear ones were 8 inches apart and the whole front end was basic Mini Cooper. It was in many ways a logical development and would have been interesting to have seen it create a new class of racing.

There was a rule in the specification of sidecars that considered two wheels with less than a specified width as a single wheel. I do not recall whether that was total width or centre distance. Neither do I recall what that width was. Owen Greenwood certainly knew and he exploited it to the full.

That was not a concern for me when I designed and built two racing sidecars. My lack of any sidecar driving experience meant that I approached the design with little in the way of preconceived notions as to how it should be done. This one won its championship and held the lap record at Brands for 8 years.
