    That's a metric indicator. Each division is 0.05MM. A very small amount.

    Grinding chucks is a Royal PITA, I have had to do two back to back 6 jaw glass lathe chucks several times at work, usually after someone's overheated the jaws or has had to change the jaw plates carried on the jaw bases (like soft jaws with replaceable sections). Being glass chucks the ways and chuck bodies are much lighter/thinner. so wear can be a big problem, then there's the length of the jaws...
