Hand Coding AX Plane G-Code for a Centroid Equipped Mill In Order to Cut a Helix

The G code command G01 F1 X10 A30 tells the CNC equipped machine to move 10 inches along the X axis while turning 30 degrees around the A axis. That "F" parameter is the feed rate. At first glance, this may be confusing because it is not clear if it applies to the linear or rotary movement. With the proper parameters set in the Centroid software, the feed rate applies to the linear motion and the rotary motion "slaves" to it.

This article presents equations that relate linear motion, rotary motion, and linear feed rate to the feed rate experienced by the cutter.
