I know my 3/4 to 1" torque multiplier will put out some scary torque levels when I use a 3 ft long break over bar and apply my full weight to it.
come bleed or blister something is going to happen.

I hadn't seen one before, but makes perfect sense.

I suspect that inside is a helix that attaches to the socket. As the user turns the crank, a nut moves towards the socket end of the toop and rides down the helix. The pitch of this helix must be large in order to provide the needed mechanical advantage. With lots of grease on the surfaces, it should all work smoothly. Brilliant design!

I was thinking a planetary gear, but don't know.

I’ve used them quite often, cost about 110$ Australian come with 3 sockets and can be a real ball breaker if rotated in the wrong direction on left handed wheel 1”studs , will literally shear them off not a problem! 😣
