Hi, everyone. I am David. I have been here for a while but don't normally post. I have 4 shops in one. Metal, Wood, Automotive, and Electronics. I am always looking for new ideas to help me out in one of the 4 areas. I make most of my specialty tools, jigs, and fixtures. This site is instrumental for giving me fresh ideas and discovering new ones. It's fun, relaxing and exciting building your own tools and being able to fix most anything.

What's next up on your build list?

Next up? I am currently working on a redesign of my computer table. I need to incorporate a shelf to hold some medical equipment connected to the internet along with my laptop, tablet, and printer. I have a very small space in my bedroom so sleek and compact is the key. I am thinking of something on a mono pole using a turned post and shelves that I can move around the post to place them in use or at rest. I like walnut, cherry and oak so I am thinking of incorporating all three woods with some metal bracketing for support. I may lamanate the three woods togeather before putting it on the lathe for turning. Somehow I have to get a collet on the pole so that I can mount a bracket and shelf that can be rotated around the pole to positions out of the way when not in use. I would like to angle the shelf for comfort as well as be able to lower or raise the shelf so it is comfortable to position my hands on such as a keyboard.

Any Ideas are always welcome.

Mono pole, interesting! Have you seen any similar designs that you like?

I have a few ideas from stores and hospitals. They all use metal poles and fit equipment or display shelves on them, usually with a clamp of some kind. I want something a little more elegant looking. If I turn short sections of the pole and fit them togeather I can turn some kind of a collet that will fit over the end of each section and hold a metal shelf brace or bracket.
