Thanks for your interest Ken. The CNC project is just in its infancy. I have done a bit of reading on the net, and come up with a design that is about 700 x 600 mm with a fixed gantry and moving table. What am I going to use it for? I am hoping that it will be sturdy enough to mill aluminium, and I think that it may help with pattern making for casts. You know how it is, once you have a tool, you find uses for it, but in the end, I want to expand my constructional skills, as well as venturing into computer control. I have a Rasberry Pi, and an Arduino, which I have hardly touched, and this is one way to force myself to get more personally acquainted. Because I enjoy casting, I will be casting a lot of the parts. As the project progresses, I can upload some photos.
In the meantime, I have attached some photos of previous work. The first one is the lathe that got me started in casting. It is the Dave Gingery design, with a few minor improvements. The second is one of several marimbas that I made. The third one is a sewing table that I made for my daughter in 2009, and the last one is a recent cast of a manifold for a Norton Commando. (prior to machining). Keeps me off the streets.
