An engine designed by one of the Corliss imitators. A true Corliss engine has a wrist plate mounted centrally on the side of the cylinder block. This plate is driven off the crankshaft by a single connecting rod; it then drives four rods to the separately adjustable intake and exhaust valves. Corliss patented those features so his competitors had to do the workaround with two connecting rods to control the valves.

Wow! Love this setup. Some very ingenious people back then solving such machining challenges. Would have loved to see it in action.

yes it sure would be something to see all these things in action. about 8 years ago in Milan ITALY under one of the Leonardo daVinci museems, yes under. there is a old machine shop from long long ago. big wooden chevron cut gears for no thrust& smooth running and many wire streachers/sizers, as well as some lathes and something that took me a while to work out just what it was and how it worked. it was a D O M,( drawn over mandrl) pipe manufacturing machine. it was awesome to see.all of in in the dirt floor under the building. I wish I had more time there but they had a big function going on and closing early and I was off to switzerland the next day. I love going to Italy .
