Nice, I love the simplicity of the circuit. It will start the motor from a shelf of around 60V and the feedback is not as precise as what would be achieved with an opamp but its simplicity is a plus, congratulations for your design.
I have a bunch of digitally controllable dimmers (10A 240V) so my idea was to control one of them with a couple of opamp and a comparator to pick up the feedback from the alternator (used as tachometer) usually found in washing machine motors or to pick up a simple encoder (just made with a hall sensor or a photocoupler and a cogwheel) for any universal motor that do not come with a pre-installed alternator/tachometer. This would be a very versatile circuit capable to provide good speed regulation. Since I can't find this kind of drivers on the market I thought it could be of interest for others because universal motors are ubiquitous and a cogwheel+hall sensor or a simple low resolution encoder disc are really easy to add and cheap.
