That's a nice low profile chuck. A hole in the middle would be handy.
Is everything Aluminium?
Ralph
I chose not to drill a central hole. If you need it, it's easy to do. Thank you nova_robotics!
The material is recycled, but I took a sample from the metallurgy laboratory. Preliminary analysis indicates that it is SAE 4140 steel. Thank you Ralphxyz!
Thanks, is that just the plate or also the jaws?
Ralph
In this project they are both in SAE 4140, but the plate could be another material (SAE 1020, cast iron, etc). The jaws could also be of another material, as long as it acquires temper. Thank you Ralphxyz!
Thanks, I wondered about the jaws, seems like if you did not set them as you did in the video that you could easily distort them if they were not hardenable steel.
I really like the whole concept and have it on my list, if I can get suitable material cheap.
Ralph
I use this plate for lighter services, however, you can reinforce the thickness of the jaws and increase the diameter of the screws as needed. I searched the internet for a model of jaws to serve as an idea, but I didn't find anything simple. So, I thought about this model, which was easy to build. Thank you Ralphxyz!
