I should point out that in most if not all the USA it's illegal to relocate animals you've captured. It's considered inhumane (spreads disease, the local animals will probably attack a stranger, etc.).
just kill the dam thing they do more damage than good, nice trap by the way next time add some electricity to zap the sh** out of it. That rat appears to be sick you shouldn't of let it go into the wild like that its not a wise move :headscratch:. By the way i love animals to , just not sewer rats they carry lots of disease.
Even if not illegal, most folks would have some trouble finding a proper place for their captive critter. There are alternatives though. I live in the Tucson area of Arizona and have twice (so far) captured poisonous snakes: the first a coral snake which was far smaller than I would have thought and almost dainty. The second was a rattlesnake. Not dainty at all.. Both times I called 9-1-1 and the local fire department came out to relieve me of them. I asked, and they assured me that the snakes would be released in a safe, non-populated location. I wouldn't treat rats as kindly, but perhaps other animals, caught by ordinary citizens, could also be relocated by game wardens, etc.
my cats, dogs and guineas take care of rats mice rabbits and most snakes skunks raccoons even an occasional Chickenhawk for me. My animals don't care the species, if they are not indigenous to the livelihood of this property it doesn't live long

I knew a lady that grew up on a farm, one of her tasks was any time a car stopped to release a cat/dog she went right over there and shot it. More humane than letting a city animal die of starvation or attack from the local beasts.
Here’s me thinking the holes in the filter metal were to let the water in when you drowned them.
