That's called a Symes prosthesis. I've made a few of those. (for humans) A Symes amputation is one in which the foot is amputated through the ankle. The resulting surface at the end of the stump is capable of bearing most of the weight of the limb. It is named for the physician who pioneered the procedure. The horse is doing very well with it.
