    Little bit of both, although my personal experience is that a mule is a good bit more protective of its rider once the two have bonded.

    Out where I live there are cattle and sheep on fairly small pastures. They stick either a donkey or a Llama out with the sheep. We have a lot of deer, so a lot of Coyotes. The donkeys will kill coyotes rather swiftly and so will the Llamas.

    Amazing animals when you think about it.
