Outstanding! Thank you for posting! I always thought of the machine as being like a crash car derby near the speed of light. Crash the cars and then run out to examine any pieces that came flying out of the collision to piece together the complete car design like a 3D jigsaw puzzle.
Altair - are you working with the LHC? I was an engineer on the SuperConducting Super Collider (SSC Laboratory) before it was de-funded and shut down in the early 90's. Never understood the physics TBH (I'm a strictly Newtonian, mechanical engineering type of guy), but very much enjoyed the engineering design challenges those superconducting magnets brought to the table. Just connecting two dipoles together was enough to keep our team busy. I can't even imagine how hard the detector design work must have been.
